Summer Glau is a young college student studying abroad in South Korea. Expecting fun and adventure in the city, she is severely disappointed when she lands a home stay assignment in Mungyeong, a rural countryside village, instead of Seoul. Despite her pleadings with the study abroad coordinator, Christina Hendricks, she is unable to change her situation. While disastrously failing to adapt to the local customs, Summer encounters fellow expat, James McAvoy, who takes her under his wing. Along the way they discover wise rice cake peddlers, the kpop sensation, rabid fangirls, and a way to bridge cultural gaps through the soju.
