"It took you long enough to find me. I was starting to think maybe you didn’t care anymore."
She turns briefly to look at him before turning her attention back towards the painting.
"What the hell are you doing here, Caroline?"
Her lips pull into a small sad smile, but he doesn’t see. When she turn to face him, her expression is perfectly vacant.
"Because hiding started taking it’s toll on me. And there’s been something I’ve been wanting to say to you for the past several years."
Her mask falters for a moment when she answers. “I’m sorry.”
And try as he might, he couldn’t stay angry at her. He realizes then that perhaps was never even angry to begin with. He had just wished she had said good-bye.
